Behind The Pen

Where every idea Symira has comes to life and flourishes.

Battlefield Of Love

The Beginning

Writing "Battlefield Of Love" began with a word generator and a music theory class! Symira took music theory in the winter and wanted to write a song for her unit application. Using the word generator, the word "battlefield" appeared. Symira began to write a verse and a chorus based on the word. Once completed, she began creating a demo of the song for class.

After presenting it to her classmates and professor, they recommended that Symira finish writing the song and release it to the world. With that information, Symira didn't hesitate and immediately got to work. As she read over her lyrics, she realized that they were similar to her mom's situation with her father (mental and emotional abuse). Symira drew inspiration from this situation to write the entire song from her mother's point of view. Once she finished composing and writing lyrics (on the same day), she cried and began to fall in love with it.

The Middle

Symira set her mind on recording this song in the spring before going back home! She wanted this project to be very collaborative, so she found some great musicians to play for her and learn the song. Symira created files for each instrument, including multiple practice tracks, chord sheets, and videos of her explaining her expectations and the sound she wants for the song.

Once in the studio, Symira and the band played together for the first time- she was shocked by each person's talent in the room. They recorded a few takes live (full band + vocals) and then went into the booth to listen and observe which takes were best (instrument-wise). After listening, they did some overdubbing of the vocals, acoustic guitar, and piano/pad sections.

A week later, after the first studio session, Symira and her friend Christian returned to record additional vocal parts and produce the song. They added harmonies, doubled many vocal stems, and added adlibs. Symira's audio engineer and mixer, Adam, also worked on some panning, reverb, and other effects to add more depth to the song.

The Result

A few days before leaving college, Symira was sent all the master files and final mix for the song- yayyyy! She sent it to her mom and immediately called her to hear her reaction to it. Her mom loved it, so that was Symira's official sign that it was ready to share with the world- to share it with you

Symira had a great time working on this song and is joyous that God has given her the talents, creative mindset, and support to get this song up and rolling. Cheers to Symira for releasing her debut song, "Battlefield Of Love!"
